CDU Alumna Making Real Difference in Community Service

At CDU, we love seeing where our graduates’ passions take them. Today, we’re sharing the story of Rasa Kabaila, Nurse Practitioner and founder of Broadleaf: Holistic Nurse Practitioner Services. 🏥

Rasa began her career in palliative care before a one-month stint in mental health became a lifelong calling. Seeking a new challenge, she chose CDU’s Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) for its rural and remote focus.

Through intensive residentials and sunrise hikes in Alice Springs, she formed lasting friendships with her cohort and connected with fellow Nurse Practitioner students from diverse clinical specialties across Australia.

Since then, Rasa has:

✅ Led depression and anxiety trials (Optima 1 & 2) while working in a regional hospital and serving as a conjoint lecturer with UNSW Rural Medical School.

✅ Published a textbook with Springer Nature, accessed by more than 29,000 people worldwide.

✅ Established Broadleaf, a neurodivergent-friendly, trauma-informed practice incorporating natural light, therapeutic furniture, nature, arts and crafts, therapy cats and sensory support.

✅ Volunteered as a coach with Port Macquarie Boxing Gym, connecting martial arts with youth justice and mental health.

From supervising medical students to mentoring future Nurse Practitioners, Rasa continues to support the next generation of healthcare professionals.
